Newsletter 3: 26th September 2014

Dear Parents/ Carers,

We’ve come to the end of another busy and exciting week. All of our Reception children are now settled into school and seem very happy and confident.

Thank you for your responses regarding payment for Christmas activities. If we share the cost of special events in this way, the school will have more money for books and equipment. More information about Christmas events will appear in future newsletters.

Earrings
Please ensure that your child’s earrings are removed on Tuesdays for PE and on Fridays for swimming (Years 4, 5 and 6). This is a safety precaution. Only plain, small studs should be worn to school.

Naming Items
Please ensure that all of your child’s items of clothing and footwear are named including coats. Even a name written on the label in biro will help us reunite lost items with their owners!

School Car Park
Please be considerate when parking in the car park. We are tight for space, so please pull up as close to the grass as possible. You will need to be patient when leaving the car park, especially if others are coming in at the same time: people cannot be expected to reverse onto the main road.

Healthy Lunches
The school provides healthy lunches for all children, which are free to all of Reception and KS1. Please encourage your child to eat school lunch if you possibly can.
If your child has a packed lunch, this should be healthy. Apart from the health issues caused by eating lots of processed foods (which are full of fat and sugar), children find it difficult to concentrate in the afternoon if they do not have a healthy lunch.

Reminder: Fun Day 2nd October
We would like to remind you that we are having a school fun day on Thursday 2nd October. The children will be allowed to come into school in their own clothes. Please encourage your child to stay for school lunch that day.

Supporting the School Through the Friends of Dame Tipping
I am looking forward to meeting you next Friday to discuss fundraising for the school. If you are a working parent, we would still like your help. Please email the office with your contact details and let us know when you would be available to discuss how you could contribute to fundraising events.
Even if you only have a little spare time, you could still make a positive difference. The meeting is on Friday 3rd October at 2.30pm. Hot drinks and treats will be provided.

Attendance
Well done again to class 3, Mrs McCormack’s class for topping the attendance chart again this week at 98.97%. This is a great achievement.

Let’s all aim to achieve 100% next week!

Lateness
Please note that from Monday, you will need to sign a yellow late slip in the office if you arrive after the door is closed. A reason for lateness will need to be provided. Please ensure that you bring your children to school on time every day.

Parents’ Open Afternoons
Apologies, but it has been necessary to move the Y6 parents’ open afternoon to Wednesday 19th November. All others remain the same. Please let us know if this new date presents you with any difficulties and we will try and accommodate you.

Commendations
Congratulations to all of these children, who have achieved something exceptional this week. Each of them received a certificate in assembly:
Jack Percival, Josh Ajayi, Aaron Hick, Tommy Randall, Nicole Mahoney, Oliver Mahoney, Mikey Snow, Conor Hazlewood, Krish Patel, Maansi Chagger, Ruth Airen, Dylan Alexander.

Well done, everyone!

Newsletter 2: 19th September 2014

Dear Parents/ Carers,

We have had another great week at school. We welcomed our first reception pupils, as well as some older children, to our school. I hope they will all be very happy here. Clubs have started and our PE lessons with the specialist coach and music and drama lessons with ‘Shoop’ from Artis are in full swing.

Fun Day 2nd October
We will be having a school fun day on Thursday 2nd October. The children will be allowed to come into school in their own clothes. They will be spending some of the day playing games in the classroom. School lunch will be an ’October Treat’ menu with burgers and chips, fish fingers and cake for pudding. There will also be a vegetarian option: veggie sausage in a bun. Please encourage your child to stay for school lunch that day.

INSET Days
The INSET days for the remainder of the school year are as follows:

Monday 3rd November 2014
Monday 23rd February 2015
Friday 22nd May 2015
Monday 1st June 2015

The Governors have agreed to us having an INSET day on Friday 22nd May in order that the May half term can be extended. This will allow parents to book a holiday over these 11 days, rather than during term time.

Commendations
Congratulations to all of these children, who have achieved something exceptional this week. Each of them received a certificate in assembly:

Alfie Colton, Frankie Shanahan, Annaliese Bimpong, Oliver Mahoney, Billy Newman,
Ruby Walton, Amber Gordon, Bradley Allen-Guinane, Freddie French, Lou-Lou French,
Faye Newman and Lexi Webb.

 Well done, everyone!

School Nurse
The school nurse will be in school on Monday 13th October. Please let us know if you would like to drop in and see her regarding any questions to do with your child’s health/ wellbeing. She will be in school from 8.30am.

Hair
Please ensure that your child has her/his hair tied back for school. Not only is it safer, less distracting and more hygienic; but it also helps prevent the spread of head lice.

Attendance
Well done to Class 3 (Year 1 and 2, Mrs McCormack’s class) for having the best attendance in the school this week at 98.7%.
Let’s all aim to achieve 100% next week!

Parents’ Open Afternoons
On the 17th and 18th of November, we will be holding parents’ open afternoons for you to look at your child’s work with them and have an informal chat with the teachers. A parent consultation evening will be held in the Spring Term for you to discuss your child’s progress in more detail. Dates and times will be announced soon.

First Newsletter 12th September 2014

Newsletter 1: 12th September
Dear Parents/ Carers,

We’ve had a great first full week at Dame Tipping. The children have settled in really well and are already doing some excellent work. I am getting to know more of the children’s names each day and it has been lovely to meet so many parents already.

School Lunches
If your child is in KS1, please take advantage of the free school lunch we provide. There is plenty of choice and I can vouch for how tasty they are!
If your child is entitled to a free school meal, please do ask Mrs Wakeman in the office how you apply. Even if your child prefers a packed lunch, the school will receive extra money to support your child’s education.

Harvest Festival
Our annual Harvest Festival will take place on Thursday 9th October in our local church, St John the Evangelist. Please take your children directly to the church at 9am. The service will start shortly after. We welcome parents and carers to stay for the service.

Morning Supervision
Thank you for not leaving your children unsupervised outside the school in the morning. Children are supervised from 8.30am.

Clubs
Clubs begin next week. We have some exciting new clubs as well as some old favourites. Please check which clubs your children are doing and make the necessary collection arrangements. Children should be collected at 3.50pm. I am keen to expand the amount and range of clubs, so please let Mr Evans know if you have any ideas. We can’t promise to provide everything you ask for, but will certainly look into it.

Swimming
As you know, swimming began this week. Please note: we have ordered swimming bags and they should arrive within the next week or so. We do not provide swimming hats any longer, so please ensure you buy a yellow hat, if possible, or white if you cannot find a yellow one. Swimming is part of the National Curriculum and we need all children in years 4-6 to take part, so please remember to send swimming kits in every Friday.
Parking
We have had further complaints from neighbours regarding parents parking across their driveways and blocking their access. Even more disappointing is the fact that parents have been rude to them when asked to move. It is damaging to the school’s reputation if parents park irresponsibly, but it is also dangerous for your children.
Please refrain from:

·         Parking across driveways
·         Blocking access to the school playground
·         Driving onto driveways in order to turn round
·         Parking on the pavement so that pedestrians cannot pass
·         Driving onto the pavement to turn round (this is extremely dangerous with so many small children around)
·         Allowing your child to exit your car onto the road
·         Driving right up to the school door when parking on the playground.

I understand that the parking situation is difficult, but this makes it even more important for everyone to be patient and polite. If at all possible, please walk to school.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Email of Newsletters
In order to save paper, I would like to email the weekly newsletter to everyone. Please ensure that you have provided the school with an up to date email address for this purpose. I am happy to email the newsletter to more than one parent if this would be beneficial to you.

Have a lovely weekend.

With kindest regards,

Mrs Kathryn Waters

Notices

A Great Start to the School Year!

It has been a real pleasure to see all of the children back at school over the last two days. They have come in eager to learn and keen to talk about their holidays.
I would like to thank the children, parents and staff for the warm welcome I have received and look forward to getting to know everyone better over the coming weeks.

Morning Supervision

Please note that the school gates open at 8.30am and that is when supervision begins. Please do not leave your children out side the school before the gates open, as they will not be supervised and are therefore vulnerable.

Thank you for your co-operation

Mrs K Waters

(Headteacher)

School Meals

Dear KS1 parents and carers,
As you know, school meals are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. You do not need tickets for school meals, but please let your child know if you wish them to have one, so that they can be marked as ‘School Dinners’ in the register.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Mrs K Waters (Headteacher)

Year 4 Swimming

Dear parent/carers,

Swimming bags for Year 4 pupils will be available to collect in two weeks time.  Children will need to purchase their own swimming hat. The choice of colour is yellow or white.

In the meantime,  pupils may use any bag from home.

Welcome Back Letter

Dear parents/ carers,

Welcome back to a new school year.

I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Headteacher of Dame Tipping C E Primary school.

Over the next few weeks, I hope to meet you all in person. Until then, I thought I would introduce myself via letter.

I was educated in Havering, growing up in the Upminster area and attending a Church of England secondary school in Romford before completing my degree and teacher training in Surrey.

I began my teaching career in West Sussex, then moved to Barking and Dagenham. I have spent the last 11 years as a teacher and school leader in Tower Hamlets.

Myself and all of the staff at Dame Tipping will do our very best to ensure that your child is happy, healthy and reaching their full potential in school. You can help by ensuring that your child is in school every day, on time and ready to learn and that you take all of your holidays during the designated school holiday times.

At the beginning of term, Reception and KS1 parents are welcome to take their children into classrooms at the beginning of the day. KS2 children should enter the classrooms unaccompanied. Once the children are settled, Reception and KS1 children will be able to enter the classrooms by themselves.

I hope that you and your child are happy with their school life at Dame Tipping. However, if you do have any issues you wish to discuss, please arrange to meet your child's class teacher after school in the first instance. If it is an issue you wish to discuss with me, please make an appointment to see me with Mrs Wakeman in the office.

I am very much looking forward to working in partnership with you over the coming years.

Please introduce yourselves when you see me.

With kindest regards,

Mrs Kathryn Waters
