Fruit Frenzy

Children have the option of bringing one piece of fruit to eat at playtime this Friday (19th September).  Please bring in a plastic bag and hang up on coat pegs until playtime.

First Newsletter 12th September 2014

Newsletter 1: 12^th September
Dear Parents/ Carers,

We’ve had a great first full week at Dame Tipping. The children have settled in really well and are already doing some excellent work. I am getting to know more of the children’s names each day and it has been lovely to meet so many parents already.

School Lunches

If your child is in KS1, please take advantage of the free school lunch we provide. There is plenty of choice and I can vouch for how tasty they are!

If your child is entitled to a free school meal, please do ask Mrs Wakeman in the office how you apply. Even if your child prefers a packed lunch, the school will receive extra money to support your child’s education.

Harvest Festival

Our annual Harvest Festival will take place on Thursday 9^th October in our local church, St John the Evangelist. Please take your children directly to the church at 9am. The service will start shortly after. We welcome parents and carers to stay for the service.

Morning Supervision

Thank you for not leaving your children unsupervised outside the school in the morning. Children are supervised from 8.30am.

Clubs

Clubs begin next week. We have some exciting new clubs as well as some old favourites. Please check which clubs your children are doing and make the necessary collection arrangements. Children should be collected at 3.50pm. I am keen to expand the amount and range of clubs, so please let Mr Evans know if you have any ideas. We can’t promise to provide everything you ask for, but will certainly look into it.

Swimming

As you know, swimming began this week. Please note: we have ordered swimming bags and they should arrive within the next week or so. We do not provide swimming hats any longer, so please ensure you buy a yellow hat, if possible, or white if you cannot find a yellow one. Swimming is part of the National Curriculum and we need all children in years 4-6 to take part, so please remember to send swimming kits in every Friday.                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

Parking

We have had further complaints from neighbours regarding parents parking across their driveways and blocking their access. Even more disappointing is the fact that parents have been rude to them when asked to move. It is damaging to the school’s reputation if parents park irresponsibly, but it is also dangerous for your children.

Please refrain from:

·         Parking across driveways

·         Blocking access to the school playground

·         Driving onto driveways in order to turn round

·         Parking on the pavement so that pedestrians cannot pass

·         Driving onto the pavement to turn round (this is extremely dangerous with so many small children around)

·         Allowing your child to exit your car onto the road

·         Driving right up to the school door when parking on the playground.

I understand that the parking situation is difficult, but this makes it even more important for everyone to be patient and polite. If at all possible, please walk to school.

Email of Newsletters

In order to save paper, I would like to email the weekly newsletter to everyone. Please ensure that you have provided the school with an up to date email address for this purpose. I am happy to email the newsletter to more than one parent if this would be beneficial to you.

A Great Start to the School Year!

It has been a real pleasure to see all of the children back at school over the last two days. They have come in eager to learn and keen to talk about their holidays.

I would like to thank the children, parents and staff for the warm welcome I have received and look forward to getting to know everyone better over the coming weeks.

Morning Supervision

Please note that the school gates open at 8.30am and that is when supervision begins. Please do not leave your children out side the school before the gates open, as they will not be supervised and are therefore vulnerable.

School Meals

Dear KS1 parents and carers,

As you know, school meals are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. You do not need tickets for school meals, but please let your child know if you wish them to have one, so that they can be marked as ‘School Dinners’ in the register.

Year 4 Swimming

Dear parent/carers,

Swimming bags for Year 4 pupils will be available to collect in two weeks time.  Children will need to purchase their own swimming hat. The choice of colour is yellow or white.

In the meantime,  pupils may use any bag from home.

Welcome Back Letter

Dear parents/ carers,

Welcome back to a new school year.

I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Headteacher of Dame Tipping C E Primary school.

Over the next few weeks, I hope to meet you all in person. Until then, I thought I would introduce myself via letter.

I was educated in Havering, growing up in the Upminster area and attending a Church of England secondary school in Romford before completing my degree and teacher training in Surrey. 

I began my teaching career in West Sussex, then moved to Barking and Dagenham. I have spent the last 11 years as a teacher and school leader in Tower Hamlets.

Myself and all of the staff at Dame Tipping will do our very best to ensure that your child is happy, healthy and reaching their full potential in school. You can help by ensuring that your child is in school every day, on time and ready to learn and that you take all of your holidays during the designated school holiday times.

At the beginning of term, Reception and KS1 parents are welcome to take their children into classrooms at the beginning of the day. KS2 children should enter the classrooms unaccompanied. Once the children are settled, Reception and KS1 children will be able to enter the classrooms by themselves.

I hope that you and your child are happy with their school life at Dame Tipping. However, if you do have any issues you wish to discuss, please arrange to meet your child's class teacher after school in the first instance. If it is an issue you wish to discuss with me, please make an appointment to see me with Mrs Wakeman in the office. 

I am very much looking forward to working in partnership with you over the coming years.
