21st November 2012
Dear Parents/Carers,
If your child vomits or has diarrhoea, then
48hours is the required exclusion period
in the borough directive taken from the Department of Health Guidelines for
Prevention of Infection in Schools & Nurseries. You can see further information here:
http://www.hpa.org.uk/webc/HPAwebFile/HPAweb_C/1194947358374
It is important to remember that, although your child and all members of your
family may be fit & healthy (apart from the tummy bug) that is not the case for every child & family. Many children who attend school/nursery (or members of their families) may have a depressed or compromised immune system, or may have a
medical condition that makes a tummy bug much more serious for them than it is for others. What is a minor unpleasant inconvenience for your child could be a hospital admittance for one of these children.

Dear Parents/Carers,
This is a quick reminder letter that Sue, our school photographer, will be visiting the school on:
Friday, 23rd November
She will be here from 08.30 am onwards for the morning, so if you wish younger brothers and sisters not at school to have their picture taken, then please do bring them in from this time until 09.00 am. Sue will be taking individual and family group photographs.
The Friends of Dame Tipping will need the order forms back for “Secret Santa” by tomorrow, please. Donations for the Christmas Fayre will still be gratefully received.
If anyone is still packing a shoebox for the Samaritans purse, could we ask that they are brought in by the end of this week. You can also donate online at:
http://www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/
Thanks to all who wore their nightclothes on Jim Jam Friday for *Children in Need*. We are delighted to tell you that we banked a cheque for £98!

Please bear with us as we embark on the last stages of our school building work. This will be an “external learning area” attached to Class 3C. Parking at the rear of the school - always difficult on the best of days - will be restricted to smaller areas for the next few days. Hopefully it will all have been worth it!

The Friends of Dame Tipping would like to remind you that donations for the
Christmas Fayre - to be held at St. John’s Church Hall on Friday, 30th November
would still be very gratefully received at the school.
Yours sincerely,
V. A. Morris

Dear Parents/Carers,
We hope you can join us for our Harvest Festival on:
Thursday, 25th October at St. John’s Church at 9.00am
The service should take no longer than 40 minutes and the children will then be accompanied back to school by the staff to begin their school day. Would you please bring the children directly to the church on that morning at the usual time - 8.55 am - where staff will be waiting, along with any harvest gifts you may wish to donate to the elder residents of Havering-ate-Bower village. After the service, the older children at the school will deliver the parcels of food.
Mrs. Bimpong has kindly agreed to run a multicultural workshop for us on Friday morning (26th October). More details to follow nearer the day!
School will then end for the half term break. Teachers’ Training Day is on Monday, 5th November and the children will be back in school on Tuesday 6th November.
Parental Interviews will be held during this week as follows:
Tuesday 6th November 2012
|
Tuesday 6th November 2012 - Class 3B, Mr. Botha
Wednesday 7th November 2012 - Class 1, Mr. Evans
Thursday 8th November 2012 - Class 2, Mr. Drury
Next week, the appointment times sheets for these interviews will be out in the covered way as usual for you to sign. Please remember that you do not need to wait for an appointment to see your child/ren’s teacher or their teaching assistant. We are happy to talk to you if you have a question or a problem.
Yours sincerely,
V. A. Morris

There is now an option for sweatshirts which, if worn, should be accompanied by a polo shirt underneath. No tie would be required for this selection. Very sturdy book bags are also available from this site with the school logo.

Sports Day Postponed!
18th June 2012
Dear Parents/Carers,
Sports Day Postponed!
Unfortunately, the prolonged wet weather over the weekend has made the field impossible to use for tomorrow’s planned Sports Day. We do - however - still have the option of trying again for the afternoon of NEXT Tuesday - June 26th.
If on that date, the field is waterlogged, then we will either use the playground or the school hall for a limited amount of events. Unfortunately this will mean that we would be unable to invite parents/carers and friends into school to watch the
proceedings.
I do appreciate that this uncertainty makes arrangements very difficult, especially for parents/carers that work, and can only apologise for the disruption it causes. Hopefully next year, we shall have the fenced play area - with larger hard surface -to use for such occasions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding and we hope to see you next week for Sports Day!
V. A. Morris
Sports Day!
15th June 2012
Dear Parents/Carers,
Sports Day!
“Spells of wet and windy weather with periods of persistent, heavy rain will affect much of England and Wales through Friday and the weekend. The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding.”
Whilst we will make every effort to hold our Sports Day next Tuesday, the weather forecast has worsened and we are hoping that the field will be dry enough to use safely. As we have planned an earlier date this year, this still leaves time to hold the Sports Day on the following Tuesday (June 26th).
We can only apologise for the possible disruption that a new date may cause to
parents/carers who have possibly taken time off work. Unfortunately, it seems that this time of year is becoming increasingly more unsettled!
Many thanks,
V. A. Morris

Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you so much for your fantastic response to the Friends of Dame Tipping Garden Party yesterday! The weather was good and the children had a wonderful time. We are very
grateful to Danielle, Gill, Sonia, Louise and the many other parents who baked, carried
furniture, organised stalls and games and supported the non-uniform day. Reiss Thomas - an ex-pupil - kept the children well entertained with magic tricks, music and dancing.
The Friends raised around £500 which will go towards funding the costs of school visits and extra treats for the children etc. Because of their continued support, the school is one of the few locally that still do not make a charge for the costs of school outings. The
children will all be presented with a commemorative Jubilee mug from the Friends today.
On Wednesday, the reception year group visited Old MacDonald’s Farm and Years 1 - 6 had a wonderful afternoon at the *Go Bonkers* afternoon generously hosted by Broadford School. Our children were exceptionally well behaved!
We wish you all a very Happy Jubilee Bank Holiday and half term week. The following
Monday is a staff training day so school will begin again on:
Tuesday 12th June 2012
With many thanks,

Dear Parents/Carers,
As the weather is so changeable and unpredictable at the moment, if the children arrive at school expecting to be skipping in the playground, but the rain arrives, we will take them into the hall for a “Five-a-Day” mini exercise program. This will run from 08.30 until the start of the school day at 08.55 am.
We hope that this will make it easier for planning your start to the school day!
Many thanks,
V. A. Morris

11th May 2012
Dear Parents/Carers,
School begins at 08.55 am. The children may come into the school premises from 08.45 am onwards. The bell is rung and the children enter their classroom to begin their day.
However, IF the weather is clear (i.e. not raining or worse!) then the children may come into the playground at 08.30 am where they can join a supervised “skipping club”. If the weather is wet we would ask that you do not send your child into school until the regular time of 08.45 am. We do not have sufficient waiting area to
accommodate the whole school.
Please can you make arrangements to supervise your child/ren at the front of the school until the doors are open? We have received worrying reports of children being left outside the school at the gate with no adult, often for long periods. Some silly behaviour has been observed, and children straying outside the school gate.
We do realise that the parking at the front of the school makes this difficult but we are hopeful that the situation will soon improve. We are delighted to tell you that the council has agreed to lease us an area of land at the rear of the school on the field for us to use as an enclosed play area! It also means that we can place a hard surfaced area for the children to use when the weather is poor, and will free up the back playground for easier parking at the beginning and end of the day. Work should be completed on this during the six week summer break.
Many thanks!
